The United Nations General Assembly held its first meeting of the 73rd session today. The meeting was presided by the President of the General Assembly for the 73rd session, Her Excellency Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador.

The high level segment of the General Assembly will be from 25 September to 1 October 2018. Heads of States and delegations will deliver their statements at the general debate this year on the topic,‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.’

The high level segment will also see high level meetings around peace, financing the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, peace keeping, elimination of nuclear weapons, fight to end tuberculosis, and prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

Maldives Foreign Minister Dr Mohamed Asim will lead the Maldives Delegation to the UNGA73.
