22 March 2018, New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim met with several Permanent Representatives in New York today, to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially with regard to the United Nations Security Council. The Maldives is campaigning for support in its bid to become a member of the Council for the term 2019-2020. Minister Asim is visiting New York to speak at the High Level Meeting to launch the "International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028" hosted by the President of the General Assembly. The Minister delivered remarks on behalf of the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States at the plenary session, as well participated as a panellist, in the panel discussion on the Role of relevant stakeholders in mobilising needed means for implementation and follow-up of water-related SDGs.
