The Republic of Maldives and the Principality of Liechtenstein established diplomatic relations today through an exchange of diplomatic notes by the two country’s permanent missions to the United Nations located in New York.

The Principality of Liechtenstein is a small land-locked country located in Western Europe, bordering Austria and Switzerland with a population of just over 35’000 people. Liechtenstein, as one of the smallest countries in the world also has one of its highest per capita GDP.

The Maldives has always played an active role is fostering relations with the international community and establishing ties with friendly countries. Liechtenstein becomes the 156th country to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives.
