Maldives calls for consistent funding for UN-Women

UN Headquarters, New York: Ambassador Ahmed Sareer, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, expressed Maldives’ continued financial contribution to the UN-Women. Speaking today at the pledging event for UN-Women, Ambassador Sareer called on wealthy and resourceful donor countries to provide more generous resources to enable the Entity to function more effectively in its noble tasks of the advancement of women and their empowerment.

Emphasizing the overarching nature of the Entity and its extensive mandate, Ambassador Sareer stressed the need to meet the reduced resource mobilization targets for the 2014-2015 period. As a symbolic gesture of sustained support, he indicated that the Maldives has continued its token contribution towards meeting those targets.

Ambassador Sareer also noted the ongoing programs in the Maldives on enhancing the political participation of women and implementing gender sensitive budgeting. He commended the Entity’s creation of linkages with other UN organizations, the private sector and the civil society in order to effectively produce tangible outcomes.

Invest Maldives, the government agency entrusted with promoting, licensing and registering foreign investments in the country, is the first port of call for all foreigners keen to invest in the Maldives.
